When we are young most of us are taught to 'reach for the stars.' Our parents encourage us that we can be anything we want to be. We dream of being astronauts, firemen, and ballerinas. However, around the beginning of high school the fantasy is revoked and replaced by, you can make a great living as a'fill in the blank. Tutus and fire helmets are replaced by ties and nylons. Instead of being taught to follow our dreams we are herded into corporate America, to make a 'great living'.
I am not negating the fact that in these professions that we are led to 'my generation will make a lot of money and can lead a very satisfying life.' However, corporate America isn't for everyone, and there's that old saying money can't buy happiness. So what is the key to happiness and success later on in life? The answer is the definition of success to the individual. The key to happiness and success is to focus on what makes you happy, what gets you going, and what makes you excited to roll out of bed in the morning.
